What exactly are toros and where do they come from in the Baltic Sea?
Toros are formed when the frozen sea surface breaks and strong winds and waves begin to push the ice floe towards land. They look like chaotically arranged blocks of ice, like miniature icebergs.
Their formation requires a rare combination of conditions: first a long frost, then a thaw, and finally a strong wind blowing from the sea. That’s why toros appear sporadically in Poland and usually arouse a lot of interest. Such views are more often associated with the Arctic than with the Baltic Sea, which only emphasizes their uniqueness.
A winter beach that surprises
Information about ice formations in Mikoszewo quickly spread on social media. The effect was easy to predict: walkers, photographers and curious people who usually visit the seaside in the summer appeared on the beach. The winter landscape completely changed the character of this place. Instead of sand and screens, there are ice blocks, and a simple walk along the seaside resembles a journey through the harsh northern land.
Mikoszewo also has more to offer in winter. The combination of wild nature and rare ice phenomena means that the town is increasingly becoming a winter destination.

How long will the toros stay on the beach?
How long ice banks will decorate the beach depends entirely on the weather. Rising temperatures and weaker winds will cause the toros to crumble and melt.
However, it is worth remembering about safety. Ice structures look impressive, but are unstable and fragile. Climbing on them may result in a serious accident. It is best to admire the toros from a safe distance.
