Thomas Janie doesn’t want to come back as the Punisher. “I was miscast”

“Punisher” Jonathan Hensleigh’s 2004 was the second adaptation of Marvel comics under the same title (the first one was created in 1989, and Dolph Lundgren played the title avenger). The film was met with lukewarm reception from viewers and critics.

Recently, former actors of their characters have been appearing in Marvel Studios films. During a conversation with Josh Wilfing from “ComicBookMovie” about “Frontier Crucible” Jane he was asked if he would be willing to make such a comeback. The actor did not express enthusiasm. He even claimed that he was miscast over two decades ago.

“Me as Frank Castle was a mistake. The character has Italian roots. He has black hair and a completely different origin… (…) I’m not that guy. I had to dye my hair and become a different person,” Jane said.

He then referred to Jon Berenthalwho has been playing Castle for 10 years. This year we saw him in the TV series “Daredevil: Rise of Daredevil”, next year he will appear in the movie “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”. “I’m glad that now the character is being played by someone who suits her better. I had fun (in the role), I tried to play it as best as I could, I’m very grateful for it, but I wasn’t the right choice,” Jane said.

The Punisher character appeared in the 129th issue of “The Amazing Spider-Man” series from 1974. He was an avenger who, after the accidental death of his family during mafia settlements, decides to bring justice on his own. The character gained unexpectedly great popularity. At one point, it had as many as four publications a month.

Unlike most Marvel superheroes, the Punisher believes that there are no half-measures when it comes to fighting crime. He does not hesitate to kill his opponents, which often makes him a difficult partner for, for example, Spider-Man.
