Krystyna Feldmanan icon of Polish cinema, gained immortal fame thanks to her roles in “The world according to the Kiepskis” and “My Nikifor“. Although she is remembered mainly as a characteristic background character, in her youth the actress delighted with her delicate beauty and enormous talent. Photos from years ago prove that even then she had something about her that attracted attention.
Krystyna Feldman was born on March 1, 1916 in Lviv into an artistic family. Her father, Ferdynand Feldman, was a valued theater actor, and her mother, Katarzyna Feldman, an opera singer. In such a creative environment, young Krystyna quickly became interested in the stage. She made her debut on the stage at the age of five, playing small child roles.
In 1937, she graduated from the State Institute of Theater Art in Warsaw, which opened the door to the world of professional acting. Soon after, she started performing at the City Theater in Lviv, but the outbreak of World War II interrupted her promisingly developing career.
During the war, Krystyna Feldman joined the Home Army, where she served as a liaison. She carried reports and sometimes weapons, risking her life for her homeland. Despite difficult conditions, she returned to the stage before the end of hostilities. In 1944, after the Red Army entered Lviv, she performed in the local theater, starting the post-war reconstruction of her career.
Feldman’s film debut took place in 1953 in “Cellulose” by Jerzy Kawalerowicz, where she played the role of a devotee. In the following years, the actress appeared in productions such as “Awantura o Basia”, “Yesterday” and “Holy War”. Although she most often played episodes, she always brought clarity and character to them, making her noticeable even in the background.
Krystyna Feldman’s photos from her youth show a woman with delicate facial features and subtle charm. Her natural beauty contrasted with the characteristic roles she played in later years. The actress was able to fully transform into each character, which made her creations authentic and memorable.
At the age of 88, Feldman played the main role in the film “Moj Nikifor”, playing the painter Nikifor Krynicki. It was the first main role in her life, and at the same time one of the most important in the history of Polish cinema. This performance brought her numerous awards, both in Poland and abroad, and established her position as one of the most talented actresses of her generation.
Krystyna Feldman, even though she remained in the shadow of more famous stars for many years, created dozens of unforgettable roles. Her youthful beauty, talent and courage make her a unique character whose memory is still alive in the hearts of viewers.
