As we know, there are plans at least five seasons and there is no way that Prime Video’s management would cancel the series, considering the budget, what “Rings of Power” and the power of the source material absorbed. Despite everything, the second season must win over the viewerswhat after the changes and reception among the fans of the work may seem like a pretty daunting task. So how do the latest episodes of “Rings of Power” look like, looking at the series as a “separate” and heavily modified story? Some things were repairable, others – not so much.
The definite plus of the second season of “Rings of Power” is the storyline of Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards), the craftsman and creator of the Rings of Power, and Sauron (Charlie Vickers). Celebrimbor becomes almost the main character in this season, and although the series shows the fates of many characters from Middle-earth, it is he who attracts the viewer’s attention the most. Whether in solo scenes or when he discusses with Sauron the dangers of forging more rings. The Celebrimbor and the dark lord storyline is also the best played.
As announced by the creators, Patrick McKay and John D. Payne, the second season is darker and more spectacular. In the final episodes we will see scenes of the siege of Eregion and there is really something to watch. Besides, the end of the series will provide viewers with a lot of fun – a lot will happen, there will be familiar characters, readers’ favorites, beasts, and the action will rush forward. Not to mention the reunion of Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and Sauron shown in the trailers. Although during this duel we will hear one of the most unsuccessful dialogues in this series, but oh well… you can’t have everything.
If you are wondering about other advantages, then definitely these include the Durin thread (Owain Arthur) and the challenges he must face in Khazad-dûm. It is no longer just about loyalty to his friends (which will of course be tested), but also about Durin’s relationship with his father and the impact that subsequent events will have on the dwarves. Alongside Celebrimbor’s storyline, this is one of the best stories this season. Here we can also add the events that take place in Numenor. What can I say, I just like the series’ Miriel (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) and Elendil (Lloyd Owen).
Not all things turned out well, however, and the writers did not manage to fix all the mistakes of the first series. The lines spoken by the characters sometimes sound really funny (see: the duel of Sauron and Galadriel), and the pace of events is sometimes too slow. “Rings of Power” are still fragmented – we are constantly jumping between different events and characters, sometimes parting ways with them for an episode or two. It breaks the immersion a bit – one moment we are in the middle of the battle for Eregion, a moment later – at a completely different point in the story.
Due to the huge amount of source material, the creators had to compress some of the plots, so we often deal with plot shortcuts, which doesn’t always work out well for the series. The writers still devote a lot of time to the hobbits, but their whole storyline is more accessible than in the first series. Theo (Tyroe Muhafidin), the son of Bronwyn (Nazanin Boniadi, who dropped out of the second season), is still one of the most annoying teenagers in the history of the series, but fortunately there are a little less of him.
And finally, the new episodes feature Tom Bombadil (Rory Kinnear), beloved by Tolkien fans. In interviews, the actor has made it clear that his character is not entirely like the one in the novel, and the creators have used the series format to explore it more. Tom is a likeable man who tries to help the Stranger (Daniel Weyman). It’s a bit predictable, but it turned out quite… nice.
“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” this is one of most popular Prime Video productions. The series has already been seen by over 100 million fans worldwide. The latest season shows “Middle-earth in the throes of discord, sown by Sauron, and the deception and manipulation that lead to the creation of the titular Rings of Power. Unexpected alliances are forged in the flames of fire, and true friendships are put to the test.” Three episodes of the series will hit Prime Video on August 29. The next ones will be available weekly.
