“The Life of Chuck” Wins Toronto Film Festival. Will It Win an Oscar?

“The Life of Chuck” is an adaptation of the 2020 Stephen King short story. The film focuses on three stories from the life of the title character, played by Tom Hiddleston. The production also stars Karen Gillan, Mark Hamill, and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Flanagan beat Audiard and Baker, whose films received the most important awards at the Cannes Film Festival. “Emilia Perez” received the Jury Prize and the award for actresses. “Anora” received the Palme d’Or. Both films are favorites in the upcoming race for Oscars. Flanagan just joined them.

The Toronto Audience Award is considered one of the most important predictors of Oscar season. Last year’s winner, Cord Jefferson’s American Fiction, received five Oscar nominations, including for picture, leading actor (Jeffrey Wright) and supporting actor (Sterling K. Brown). It ultimately won for adapted screenplay.

In the past decade, every Toronto Audience Award winner has been nominated for the top Oscar. Two of them, Green Book and Nomandland, have been named film of the year. The others include La La Land, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri, Jojo Rabbit and The Storytellers.
