Steven Wilson is preparing to release its eighth album “The Overview”. He has already planned a concert tour, which will start with the full line-up in early 2025. On this occasion, he will also perform in Poland. The artist will be seen in two parts of the country: on June 4 in Warsaw and a day later in Gliwice.
Steven Willson on the Future of AI: “It’s Surreal”
The artist has spoken out on the subject of artificial intelligence. Concerned about their rapid development, he shared his opinion on his Facebook. He states that musicians will soon become unnecessary, because AI will be able to create for them, as well as replace the voices of any vocalists. This also includes mixing and mastering tracks.
“Musicians and music recordings will become unnecessary. Music will be created in real time by artificial intelligence for the needs of a given listener at a given moment. You will be able to choose the singer you want to hear (Freddie Mercury, Aretha Franklin, John Lennonanyone), song subject and musical genre. AI will create a song for you in real time, and you will be able to decide whether to save it, share it with friends or delete it,” we read.
He is overwhelmed by the fact that the AI can use his voice for any purpose, making it sound as if the singer actually recorded it. At the end of his speech, he asked a terrifying question.
“I think a big step in that direction has just been taken, because I was recently sent AI-created Steven Wilson tracks. I don’t know who created them or what their motivation was, but even I have trouble believing that I’m not singing on them. Regardless of the quality of the music, it’s unsettling, surreal. We’re experiencing a seismic shift in how music is made and experienced. Do most people care that they are not listening to a real human being?” – he sums up.
For some time now, AI-edited songs have been gaining popularity on TikTok and YouTube, such as a song by one artist whose voice AI replaced with someone else’s without the musician’s intervention. On the one hand, Internet users are delighted with some of the “arrangements”, but in reality, it raises a lot of concern about the future of the industry.
