Snakes 2024 awarded. “Perfect Bluff” is the worst Polish film!

Snakes 2024 were awarded in thirteen categories. These included: the worst actor, actress, duet or performance below talent. The Pop Culture Academy of Everything, which awards statuettes every year, also appreciated directors and screenwriters, embarrassing scenes in Polish cinema, bad posters and special care effects. The nominees are chosen each year by members of the Pop Culture Academy of Everything, which is made up of people working professionally in the field of broadly understood culture.

“Unsuccessful Polish films are also well received in new forms of distribution – a significant part of the nominated and awarded titles are works intended for streaming,” announced representatives of the Pop Culture Academy of Everything in this year's verdict.

“We would like to point out that Polish cinema managed to cope unsuccessfully this year despite the absence of its long-time leader Patryk Vega. His absence was taken advantage of by Mariusz Pujszo, who, with his eighth and ninth Snakes in his career, came closer to Vega's result (10 Snakes), but even he did not compare with him,” they added.

The Great Serpent was handed over to the filmmakers this year “The perfect bluff” for “a failed bluff, a brazen attempt to trick the viewer into believing that this is what professional commercial cinema should look like.” The creator of this production, Michał Węgrzyn, was recognized as the worst director “for perfect creative regression and total ignorance of the basic rules of the craft.” The worst actor was Mikołaj Roznerski, who played the main role in “Blef”.

The same actor also received Snake in the Worst Duo category. Together with Magdalena Lamparska, they were appreciated for their performance in the Netflix film “The Taming of the Shrew 2 or Much Ado About Nothing”.

Two Snakes has been released by another production from the streaming giant – “Mr. Car and the Templars”. They were awarded for the worst prequel, sequel or remake and the worst scene (modern scout conversations).

The above-mentioned Mariusz Pujsza was also recognized with two statuettes. His “Masterpiece, or the Decalogue of a Film Producer” won in the categories of worst script and comedy that is not funny.

Apart from Roznerski, acting anti-awards also went to Aleksandra Adamska (worst actress) and Adam Woronowicz (performance below talent) for their performances in “The Perfect Wedding”.

Moreover, “The Caretaker” had the worst poster, “Operation Soulcatcher” had the worst special effects (the final explosion), and the worst translation of the title “Fake Lovers” (in the original – “The Robots”).

The Pop Cultural Academy of Everything (PAW) has nearly 200 people involved in cultural activities in our country, journalists, creators, cultural animators and others. Every year they award Węże (awards for the worst Polish films). According to the originators' assumptions, Snakes is a humorous way to encourage discussion about the quality of Polish cinema and draw attention to dangerous trends that do not serve the development and prosperity of Polish cinematography.

In the history of the Snake Awards so far, the awards for the worst films of the year have been won by: “Integration Trip” (2012), “The Hangover” (2013), “Ostra randka” (2014), “Foreign Body” (2015), “Ostatni Klasacyjny” (2016) ), “Smolensk” (2017), “Botoks” (2018), “Studniówek@” (2019), “Futro z misia” (2020), “365 dni” (2021), “Sciema po polsku” (2022), “The Invisible War” (2023).
