Should a new phone be discharged? Many people don’t remember this

Years ago, there was a view that . We all did the same – after purchasing a device, we turned it on and then used its full capabilities. All this to get the battery down to 0% as quickly as possible. Then we connected it to the charger and waited until the cell was 100% full.

Some people repeated this action, e.g. by discharging the battery to zero three times and then fully charging it. In fact, even today, some people do it after purchasing a new smartphone. Unfortunately, this is a big mistake that can be very damaging.

Nowadays, phones use lithium-ion batteries. – what’s more, we shouldn’t do it. Modern batteries and accumulators do not tolerate extreme values, so completely depriving them of energy will have a negative impact on their capacity. The same applies to maximum charging. It is definitely better to charge the phone briefly but often – e.g. to 80%. With short charging series, the battery will always be optimally filled and will not run out of capacity in the future.

Why then did you ever have to discharge your phone to zero? This was due to the use of a different type of batteries. in fact, they had to be “cleaned” and filled several times so that they would effectively hold energy in the future. However, those times are gone and today’s technology does not require such actions.

Modern batteries are more advanced than older variants, but we still need to take proper care of them. Below you will find some key tips:

  • Use original chargers or good quality substitutes
  • Don’t drain your phone battery below 20%
  • Do not charge your phone by leaving it on the bedding, blanket or under the pillow
  • Do not use your phone while it is charging
  • Avoid public USB charging ports whenever possible

In return for proper use, the battery will reward you with a long operating time and maintaining its original performance for a longer time.
