Jenni Riveraor rather Dolores Janney Rivera Saavedra was an American singer with Mexican roots. The singer has dedicated her entire successful career to Latin sounds. She started in 1992, and her debut album – “I Asked You Verme Llorar” – was released seven years later. Rivera had to wait a few more years for success.

Only her seventh album, titled “Parrandera, Rebelde y Atrevida”, which went double platinum. Subsequent albums are further successes. In total, the singer released 11 albums, which sold 20 million copies around the world, and thanks to this, the singer became one of the best-selling stars creating Mexican music.

The star has received several nominations for the most important music awards (Oye! Awards, Latin Grammys, Billboard Music Awards, Billboard Latin Music Awards), was also a respected television personality. It’s no wonder she was invited to the second season “The Voz”the Mexican equivalent “The Voice”where she became a trainer.

On December 9, 2012, the singer and her colleagues were flying to Toluca, where they were supposed to shoot the next episode of the talent show. Seven minutes after takeoff, the chartered plane suddenly gained speed and then crashed to the ground. Rescue teams found the remains of the machine only more than 24 hours after the disaster.

Immediately after the disaster, Jenni’s loved ones were convinced that the singer had miraculously escaped death. “We believe that our sister is safe and sound” – he said Juan Riverabrother of the star.

DNA tests of the victims’ remains, however, left no doubts: the 43-year-old died along with six other people on board. The network also immediately circulated a photo taken by Jenni’s makeup artist just before takeoff, Jacob Yebale. “We’re going back to Mexico City” – he wrote and greeted the singer’s fans.

The singer’s funeral took place on December 19 in Los Angeles. “We didn’t come here to cry over her fate. We came here to celebrate her life. She was a great singer, showman, diva, entrepreneur, philanthropist and mother – the best mother” – said Jenni Rivera’s son, Michaelstanding next to the red coffin.

A year after the tragedy, the General Civil Aviation Administration, Mexico’s aviation regulator, released a report on the accident. According to the committee, a disaster is an effect “series of factors”including the age of the machine (over 40 years in operation) and “sudden loss of control” above the aircraft (probably caused by mechanical failure or pilot error). The report also mentions the difference in age of the two pilots – one of them was 78 years old and the other 21. It was ruled out that the accident could have been caused by weather conditions, as well as a fire or explosion on board.

The report confirmed earlier suspicions of the victims’ families, who began fighting for a huge compensation. In October 2015, a court in Los Angeles decided that the company that owned the plane that Jenni Rivera was flying, Starwood Management, must pay the families $70 million in compensation. Additionally, the court appointed an executor to collect money from the company.

Almost 12 years after the singer’s death, it was also announced that the star would be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The official unveiling is to be attended by the singer and friend Gloria Trevi, as well as the five children of the late singer.
