Series “Matilda“is a dramatic story about a young woman, Matylda Bilińskawhich strives for independence in a world dominated by aristocracy and the changing socio-political realities of 19th century Poland.
In the first episode we meet her when she studies in one of the boarding schools in Lublin during the partitions. When the owner of the boarding school catches her speaking Polish and reading Polish literature, Matylda runs away from her salary to the estate of her father’s friends. She thinks her father is dead, but in fact he was sent to Siberia. How will her fate continue?
In the second episode series “Matilda” we observe the developing romance between Matylda and Dr. Robert Boden, which makes Helena Różańska jealous. Matilda, the daughter of a former insurgent expresses her views more and more boldly, which leads to conflicts both in the private sphere, as well as public. Her rebellious spirit and desire for freedom are tested as she must face the consequences of her choices.
Gienia, the Różański family’s cook, downplays Matylda’s information about the evening’s guest, suggesting that it was just a dream. Meanwhile, Izabella Rubin, the wife of a wealthy merchant, is considering divorce, which leads to conflict with her husband, who intercepts her letters to lawyers. Rubin does not want to agree to a divorce, which portends further tensions in their relationship.

Helena Różańska introduces Matylda to the social world, using Aleksandra’s engagement as an opportunity. Rubin informs Michał, that he had chosen the right candidate for his wife. Doctor Boden, who treats Ursula, is appointed as a courier by Isabella. Adam, an attractive bon vivant from Paris, arrives at the Różański Palace for his sister’s engagement and immediately establishes close contact with Matilda.
Witold tells Helena’s son disturbing news – is no longer able to finance his education. Ada, Helena’s maid, wants to move her sick mother to the manor, but Helena does not consent to this. Disappointed, Ada decides to look for a new job with Rubin, who has other, undisclosed plans for her. Ada is now hiding a secret, which she does not reveal even to Jeremy, who is in love with her.
The first season of the series “Matilda” is now available on the TVP VOD platform, where it is very popular among viewers. The first episode will be broadcast on TV on Sunday March 10, 2024 on TVP1 at 8 p.m: :20.
