PrimeVideo released the first photos from the series “Scarpetta”a new forensic crime thriller based on Patricia Cornwell’s best-selling book series about Kay Scarpetta. The series was developed and written for television by Liz Sarnoff. The film adaptation of the novel series, which has sold over 120 million copies worldwide since its premiere in 1990, is the culmination of many years of expectation for fans to have the chance to see their beloved forensic pathologist on screen for the first time.
“Scarpetta” brings the iconic literary character Patricia Cornwell to life in a gripping series starring Nicole Kidman as Dr. Kay Scarpetta. A talented and uncompromising forensic doctor, thanks to her skilled hands and extraordinary perceptiveness, is determined to become the voice of the victims, unmask the serial killer, and do everything to ensure that the case that brought her to the top of her career 28 years ago does not lead to her downfall. Set in the modern world of advanced forensics, the series goes beyond the crime scene to explore the psychological complexities of both perpetrators and investigators, creating a multi-layered thriller that explores the costs of pursuing justice at all costs.
Scarpetta, from Emmy-nominated writer, executive producer and showrunner Liz Sarnoff (“Barry,” “Lost”), is a chilling crime thriller set in two time planes. The dual narrative follows Kay Scarpetta (Nicole Kidman), from the beginning of her career as a chief medical examiner in the late 1990s, to the present, when she returns to her hometown and resumes her former position while investigating a gruesome murder. In her pursuit of justice, Scarpetta must navigate complicated relationships, including a strained relationship with her sister Dorothy Farinelli (Jamie Lee Curtis), confront years of professional and personal resentment, and face secrets that threaten to tear down everything she has built.
Oscar winner Nicole Kidman plays medical examiner Kay Scarpetta, and Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis will play her sister, Dorothy Farinelli. Emmy winner Bobby Cannavale plays Detective Pete Marino, Emmy nominee Simon Baker stars as FBI profiler Benton Wesley, and Oscar winner Ariana DeBose plays Kay’s tech-savvy niece Lucy Watson. Rounding out the second timeline are Rosy McEwen, Amanda Righetti, Jake Cannavale and Hunter Parrish, who play younger versions of the characters played by Kidman, Curtis, Cannavale and Baker.
“Scarpetta” is executive produced by Nicole Kidman and Per Saari for Blossom Films, Jamie Lee Curtis of Comet Pictures, writer and showrunner Liz Sarnoff of Sarnoff TV, author Patricia Cornwell of P&S Projects, and Jason Blum, Jeremy Gold, Chris Dickie and Chris McCumber of Blumhouse Television. David Gordon Green directed five episodes and also serves as executive producer with Amy Sayres. The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Blumhouse Television in association with Blossom Films, Comet Pictures and P&S Projects.
“Scarpetta” will debut on March 11, 2026 on Prime Video.
