“Rufus. The Sea Monster Who Couldn’t Swim”: A perfect movie for the whole family for the holidays

Producer Cornelia Boysen said: – We wanted to create a funny and colorful film, full of action and humor, but above all, a film with a lot of heart. A film for the whole family, mainly for families with children under ten years of age, but not excluding their older siblings.

When we meet Rufus, he is the only sea serpent on an island lost in the waters who cannot swim. However, it turns out that his strength is curiosity and willingness to cooperate. An important theme of this story is diversity – we are all needed, even if we do not fit into the designated framework. And sometimes the greatest hero is the one who is most afraid.

Rufus first appeared to the world in 1972 – as a nice outsider, the hero of beautifully illustrated books by the popular Norwegian writer Tor Åge Bringsværd. Director Endre Skandfer emphasized that the film, on the one hand, pays tribute to the creators of the character of Rufus – Bringsværd and illustrator Thore Hansen – and, on the other, presents exciting events with a solid portion of absurd humor. “It’s a warm, emotional film that entertains and moves at the same time,” he announced.

The film will be shown in the Polish language version. The author of the dialogues is Bartek Fukiet, and one of the main roles, a dragon with magical skills called Uncle Ludwik, will be played by Paweł Wawrzecki (series “Tościowie”, “Daleko od noszy”). The young Tadzio Michoń will make his debut in the title role.

In the heart of the ocean there is an island where extraordinary sea creatures live. Among them is little Rufus, who, however, is different from the rest of the inhabitants. While everyone loves the waves of the sea, Rufus prefers to dream alone on the shore. That’s because… he can’t swim. When his beloved uncle Louis loses his magical powers and danger looms over the island, Rufus must do something that truly terrifies him – enter the water. Will she find the courage to overcome her fear and save her friends?
