Roli Mosimann is dead. Esteemed musician and producer died in Wrocław

“It is with a heavy heart that I must announce the passing of Roli Mosimann. Roli passed away this morning in hospital in Wroclaw, Poland, from lung cancer,” Thirlwell said.

“He was an exploratory musician and a sound sculptor. He was also a wonderful human being and, as his first wife Alexa used to say, ‘a lover of women, wine and songs,'” he added.

Mosimann, who comes from Switzerland, made his name on the stage as the drummer of the famous band Swans in the early stages of its activity (1982-1984). With the band he took part in recording the first two albums: “Filth” (1983) and “Cop” (1984).

As a producer and sound engineer, he has worked with artists representing various musical genres – from industrial, metal, jazz, to classical and pop music. His list includes such names as: The Young Gods, The The, Celtic Frost, Gravity Kills, Faith No More, Rebecca Bakken and Miloopa. He also worked with groups such as Smashing Pumpkins, New Order and Marilyn Manson. The most famous albums he worked on include: “Album of the Year” by Faith No More, “The Process” by Skinny Puppy and “Portrait of an American Family” by Marilyn Mansonbut he only finished the first one. Skinny Puppy and Marilyn Manson were not happy with the results, so during the recording they replaced Mosimann accordingly Martin Atkins and Trent Reznor.

Roli Mosimann lived in Wrocław

Roli was the main sound engineer at the annual Eclectic Session in Wrocław. It is an international artistic platform and a series of events taking place in a festival formula.

In 2020, he received the statuette in Łódź. “The Man with the Golden Ear” in recognition of “pioneering achievements in the field of music production” at the 12th edition International Festival of Music Producers Soundedit.

The producer has been in a relationship with a Polish woman for the last 14 years (he has a daughter with her).
