Lovers of ambitious science fiction can breathe a sigh of relief – one of the most anticipated premieres of this year, “Mickey 17”, from that Friday will be on streaming. The film directed by Bong Joon-Ho, the Oscar winner for “Parasite”, is a film adaptation of Edward Ashton’s novel, combining brilliant satire, philosophical questions about identity and spectacular visual setting.
The film is set in the future, where the colonization of distant planets requires not only courage, but also … multiple death. The title Mickey (played by Robert Pattinson) is the so -called “Immediate” – a cellar sent to the most dangerous missions, because after each death his memories are transferred to a new body. The problem arises when after one of the missions on the unfriendly planet does not die – and returns just to discover that its next version has already been activated. What happens when the two transferable ones work simultaneously?
Bong Joon-Ho stood behind the camera, which not only directed the film, but also wrote the script. In the cast, next to Pattinson, we will also see Toni Collette, Anamalia Vartolomei, Steven Yeun, Naomi Acka and Marek Ruffalo. The creators expected that the combination of the Oscar -winning director and the star cast would attract crowds of viewers to theaters. However, the realities turned out to be different. The film about the budget of $ 50 million, earned over 130 million, which was not considered a spectacular success. Can moving a movie to streaming give him a second life?
“Mickey 17” will be available from Friday, May 23, on HBO Max.
