Richard Tandy has died. ELO keyboardist said goodbye to his friend

On the night of May 1-2, 2024, a valued musician died – Richard Tandy. He gained the greatest popularity thanks to his activities in the band Electric Light Orchestra. The group was most successful in the 1970s and 1980s. They have sold over 50 million albums around the world and received a number of awards. Dozens of their songs topped the charts. The group's most famous hits include: “Mr. Blue Sky”, “Telephone Line”Whether “Rock 'N' Roll is King”.

Richard Tandy initially played keyboards in the band The Move. However, he quickly switched to another instrument – bass. He joined ELO after the release of their debut album “The Electric Light Orchestra” in 1972. Initially, he performed there as a bassist, but over time he became the band's keyboardist. At the same time, he was one of the key musicians in the project. It gave it a characteristic sound. At that time, ELO combined electronic and futuristic pop with rock and orchestral arrangements.

Richard Tandy remained a member of the Electric Light Orchestra until 1986, when the band ended its musical activities. In 2020 Jeff Lynne decided to reactivate the group. Of the former members, only Tandy joined him to continue making music together as ELO.

The leader of the legendary group Electric Light Orchestra announced the death of Richard Tandy on social media. Tandy has always collaborated with the singer, even when he started his solo career. They were not only industry acquaintances, but also friends.

“It is with great sadness that I share the news of the death of my longtime collaborator and dear friend, Richard Tandy. He was an extraordinary musician and friend and I will cherish the memories we shared together. Sending all my love to Sheila and the Tandy family,” wrote Jeff Lynne.

The musician's cause of death was not revealed.
