“Return to Silent Hill”: The film version of the popular game. Gans behind the camera

The series name comes from a fictional, desolate and foggy town, where the game takes place. It was first released by Konami studio in 1999 for the Play Station 1 console. It is one of the titles that is considered to be the foundation of the horror genre.

The first part of the film series, directed by Christophe Gans, premiered in 2006. However, the creator had nothing to do with the continuation of the 2012 film (“Silent Hill: Apocalypse”), which was met with many negative opinions.

The next part of the series, “Return to Silent Hill”, was first announced in 2022.

The plot is supposed to refer to the second part of the game series by Konamitalking about James (Jeremy Irvine), devastated after parting with his beloved Mary (Hannah Emily Anderson). The action begins when the hero receives a letter calling him back to Silent Hill, a place transformed by mysterious evil. He tries to find his former partner, but it is not an easy task; the deeper he delves into the darkness, the closer he comes to discovering the terrifying secrets behind what has become of the city.

Christophe Gans was again behind the camera. Creators Sandra Vo-Anh and William Josef Schneider helped work on the script.

Screenings of the preliminary version of “Return to Silent Hill” took place at this year's edition of the Cannes Film Festival, where filmmakers are looking for distributors.
