“Reindeer” is the nickname that Donny (Richard Gadd), an aspiring comedian, receives from Martha (Jessica Gunning), a regular at the bar where he works. It soon turns out that the woman not only closely follows his career, but also has an unhealthy obsession with him.
Gadd based the plot of “Reindeer” on his own experiences. Initially, they served as the basis for a monodrama, for which he received a number of awards. The comedian intertwined a traumatic story with black humor.
Four episodes of the series were directed by Polish director Weronika Tofilska. This is not her first foreign production. Previously, she directed episodes, among others “His Dark Materials”, “Hanna” and “The Baker Street Gang”. She was also a co-writer “Love Lies Bleeding”one of the hits of this year's Berlin International Film Festival, starring Kristen Stewart.
“It was one of the most interesting and unusual projects I could undertake as a director. Our cooperation with Richard was very close and intense because we wanted to tell his story,” said Tofilska in an interview with Julia Właszczuk for “Vogue Polska “.
