A new, modernized version of William Shakespeare's play is being created “Romeo and Juliet”. She will appear on the Broadway stage as Julia Rachel Zegler (“West Side Story”). Romeo will play Kit Connor (series “Heartstopper”).
According to PAP, the “Romeo and Juliet” season is underway. This summer, you will be able to see a play inspired by Shakespeare's drama in London's West End Tom Holland and Francesca Amewudah-Rivers starring. The musical with songs by Max Martin is still playing on Broadway. Now they will be joined by a show with Rachel Zegler and Kit Connor.
The show “Romeo + Juliet” is intended by its creators to appeal to the generation raised on TikTok.
“Shakespeare's tragedy now belongs to a new generation living on the edge. (…) Left alone in their parents' world of violence, an impulsive pair of star-crossed lovers rush towards their inevitable fate. Intoxicating passion quickly turns into brutal chaos that may end only in one way,” we read in the official description of the show.
The director of the show is Sam Gold, who previously collaborated with, among others, with Taylor Swift. The release date has not been revealed.
