“Quack” on TV on All Saints’ Day 2025. Where and at what time can you watch the cult film?

“Charlatan”one of the most popular novels by Tadeusz Dołęga-Mostowicz, was originally created as a film script. However, when the project was rejected by the producers twice, the author decided to turn it into a book. The novel was published in installments in the daily press, and its plot quickly won the hearts of readers. The interest was so great that soon there were numerous proposals for film adaptations.

The first film based on “The Quack” was made in 1937, before the outbreak of World War II. The director was Michał Waszyński, and his work was considered one of the most important and highest-grossing productions of interwar cinema. Over the years, this film has somewhat fallen into oblivion, because for most Poles the story of Professor Rafał Wilczur is inextricably associated with Jerzy Hoffman’s version from 1982.

Hoffman entrusted the main roles to Jerzy Bińczycki, Anna Dymna and Tomasz Stockinger. The cast also included Igor Śmiałowski as the senior of the family, Bernard Ładysz as the miller Prokop, Artur Barciś as his son, the temperamental Bożena Dykiel as Prokop’s sister-in-law and Piotr Fronczewski as the professor’s assistant.

On September 27, 2023, a new adaptation of “Quack Man” appeared on Netflix, in which Leszek Lichota played the main character.

The touching story of a surgeon who finds a new life after losing his memory has stood the test of time. Hoffman’s film is still very popular – its television broadcasts attract hundreds of thousands of viewers.
