The series “Stroke”, which we wrote about in May 2023is a production of the Viaplay streaming service. It is the platform’s second Polish series after the successful “Murderesses”.
The protagonist of the series “Stroke” is Jacek (played by Jacek Monday) – a popular TV host whose life is unexpectedly turned upside down. The series creator, script writer and director is Paul Demirski (co-author series “Artists”). Rafał Skalski and Antonio Galdamez were also responsible for directing.
The series has not yet hit the Polish market, but I can watch it on CBS in Australia. How is that possible? Maciej Kubicki, the producer of “Udar”, says about it in an interview with “Gazeta Wyborcza”.
“We finished all the work in March 2024. Since then, we have been waiting for information about the premiere. We heard that Viaplay was withdrawing from Poland, then there was no one to contact from the Polish side. (…) We have settled accounts with Viaplay, now they have full rights to the title, but we were and still are very keen on the Polish premiere, as are the entire team of actors and creators. This is a really successful premium series that deserves to meet the Polish audience,” says Kubicki.
As reported by Wirtualnemedia.pl, the Viaplay platform will continue its operations in Poland until the summer of 2025, and regarding “Udar” it is conducting “talks with various entities, both in Poland, Nordic countries, and on international markets”. However, the date of the series in Poland is not known.
The series “Udra” presents the fate of Jacek – one of the most important figures on the Polish gastronomic scene. The main character of the series hosts popular culinary programs on TV, reviews new restaurants, and his opinion on gastronomy is taken seriously by almost everyone in Warsaw. One of his reviews can make a newly opened restaurant shine on the culinary map of the capital or can count on a mass exodus customers.
At the very peak of his career, he faces yet another, most important challenge. An unexpected illness will turn his life upside down, and the fight to return to everyday life will turn into an expedition that will change his life forever and force him to answer several cardinal questions.
“Stroke” consists of eight episodes. The cast, apart from Jacek Poniedziałek, will include a galaxy of well-known and talented actors and actresses. The main character’s parents will be played by Polish cinema legends Anna Seniuk and Jerzy Bończak. The new Viaplay production will also feature Marta Malikowska, Marta Nieradkiewicz, Ewa Skibińska, Konrad Eleryk, Rafał Maćkowiak, Jan Sobolewski, Monika Frajczyk and Michał Majnicz.
