On the stage of Tauron Arena Kraków Matteo Bocelli appeared in the company of his guests. Apart from the 27-year-old Italian, his father, a world-famous tenor, also performed Andrea BocelliPolish singer sanahflutist Andrea Griminelli (at the last minute he replaced the sick violinist David Garrett), classical guitar quartet 40 Fingersand also Academic Choir of the Maritime University of Gdyniawhom she accompanied Beethoven Academy Orchestra under the direction Carlo Bernini.
Matteo Bocelli at a Christmas concert. When will it be broadcast on Polsat TV?
They hosted the concert Maciej Kurzajewski and Anita Sokołowska from Polsat. It is this television that will broadcast the event under the name “Matteo Bocelli and Friends. Holidays of dreams come true” in two parts: December 7 and 26.
Michał Boroń, Interia: Whose idea for a Christmas concert was this? And who was behind the idea to organize it in Poland?
Matteo Bocelli: – It’s always teamwork. Poland has always been a special place for me. Every time I come here, I am always met with love, sympathy and I always give beautiful concerts here. I already have beautiful memories from here and I wanted to prepare something special. I hope I will be able to do this. I’m sure it will be even more special with these great guests.
So I guess you didn’t wait too long to respond?
– I had no doubts. The answer “yes” came immediately.
Do you really like Christmas carols that much or are you just a bit fed up with it? Because it’s a bit like decorating the Christmas tree again, especially since the holidays.
– When it comes to Christmas carols, there may be people who don’t appreciate them, but this is not my case. During Christmas I always listened to carols – they were also the soundtrack of my childhood. Our Christmas tradition was to listen to my father’s first Christmas album – “My Christmas” (My Christmas). I just love it – carols create a Christmas atmosphere that I love.
Do you have your favorite Christmas carol?
– I want to bring one of them to the stage and it will be a surprise, so I won’t mention it. But honestly, there are too many of them. There are probably over 20 Christmas songs and carols that I love, but you have to choose something, otherwise the concert would be too long.
As far as I know, one of the surprises will be “Lulajże Jezuniu” with Sanah. Don’t you want to try singing in Polish?
– This could also be a surprise (laughter). But I don’t know if I’m good enough to sing in Polish, but I can promise that I will do my best.
How did you come to know Sanah? And what did you know about her before you first met?
– Coming to Poland quite often in the last few years, I was curious about what the Polish music market looks like. When I found out about sanahI liked her music, I loved her creativity, I loved the visuals of her work. I thought it would be a good fit for my career.
I invited her to Italy – we first met in Milan. There we wrote a song together with Guy Chambers. It was great because she not only has great talent, but is simply a beautiful person. When I work with someone, I pay a lot of attention to both of these issues. At the end of the day, there has to be chemistry between two people if they’re recording something together.
You only created one song then? Are you planning something else together?
– No, no. Only one song was created then, but who knows. We never know what will happen in the future. Never say never (laughter).
– We wanted to find a topic that would be common for us and for other people. The song is about coming back to someone we had a relationship with before, someone we loved. These are situations that happen often. We know well that relationships between people are not easy and sometimes separation occurs. But even then, something remains at the bottom of the heart, some strong sentiment towards that person, and that’s what we wanted to convey in our song.
Has your relationship with Sanah become more than just a professional thing – I mean, you’re going on tour together in the US (the tour started on November 29).
– Yes, I am very happy that she will perform at my concerts in the United States. I love giving people a chance. She also gave it to me so that I could develop my career in Poland.
Do you have any expectations before these concerts in the USA?
– No, I don’t have any. I think that in music it’s not wise to have any expectations – in the sense that you should let yourself be carried away by your soul and the music that suits you and suits you. That’s what I try to do. When I feel the need to create new music, I try to collect the most appropriate songs for the moment, the ones I like. And hope that people will find themselves in these songs.
The American market is probably of special importance to artists from all over the world. Apart from Maneskin, I don’t think there are many artists from Italy playing there regularly at the moment?
– When it comes to my career, I feel very lucky every day. When it comes to many things in life, I don’t take them for granted because they are rare stories. I am very lucky to be able to do what I have always loved. It often takes a lot of time and hard work for people to reach this point. That’s why I’m very grateful to the audience around the world for supporting me so much and giving back to me in this way.
