Paweł Małaszyński on the new album Cochise. “I threw out everything that was poisoning my heart”

In 2024 the group Cochise celebrates its 20th anniversary. Preparations for recording the eighth album were not without obstacles.

“First the drummer left the band Adam (Galewski), with whom we have already started creating another album. Fortunately, we quickly found a replacement and Grzesiem Hiero we started arranging songs for the eighth album. When we were ready to enter the studio, our long-time producer and friend Daniel (Baranowski) had to cancel the album due to personal reasons. So we contacted an old good friend Krzysiek Murawskiproducer, musician and a man of many talents. We quickly developed a plan of action and in January 2024 we started recording. It went very smoothly and the final effect exceeded our expectations. Krzysiek had a different idea for us and these novelties in the approach to recording Cochise can be heard on this album. It’s still us, but from a slightly different sound and production perspective,” says the guitarist Wojtek Napora.

Paweł Małaszyński (Cochise): I threw out everything that was poisoning my heart

“A few knots couldn’t be untied, so we had to cut them to be able to tie everything back together. We started over, and the plan was simple: ‘We’re not going back to the past. We’re here and now. We’re in a new line-up, with a new producer, new ideas’. I said – ‘Let’s make an album that will be the best Cochise.’ And that’s what happened… We went back to the beginning, to the roots, and we managed to build something honest and true. ‘Cochise’ is like fire, and fire is an integral part of the tribe. Because music is like a tribe – it brings people together and can overshadow many bad things,” emphasizes the popular actor.

“When I create music and write lyrics, I cut myself off from my surroundings. I write when I feel moved. My personal experiences often mix with imagination, everyday life, observations of life and the world in which I have to function. I like songs that in a way expand my imagination and that’s how I try to create in Cochise. I threw out everything that poisoned my heart and sat like a nightmare in the back of my head for the last two years: disappointment, anger, fear, melancholy, anxiety. I write about wolves hidden deep in our hearts, about spiritual bankrupts, conflicts, crises, about the need for space, to break away from the overwhelming world and toxic relationships, and sometimes the burden of existence, because life is not perfect… But as always, there is also hope, awakening, unification, the need for closeness, an attempt to appreciate the beauty of life around us and love in various forms, in which it is enough to immerse yourself and everything else will cease to matter” – adds Paweł Małaszyński, who highly praises the work with producer Krzysztof Murawski and his ideas for approaching vocals.

In the songs “Garden of the Bones” and “Trouble in the Streets of Happiness”he played the piano as a guest Leszek Mozdzer. In this second number, he also appeared in the music video alongside the actor Maciej Zakościelny.

Cochise – Trouble in the Streets of Happiness

“Over these 20 years, we have managed to maintain truth, honesty, ease and distance. Cochise does not stop and calmly continues on his own path, in his own way,” emphasizes Małaszyński, who plays one of the main roles in the new series. “The Sins of the Neighbors” on Polsat. The soundtrack for this production includes songs from the album “Cochise”, as well as Cochise’s songs created especially for this series.
