“I have to get off the internet. It’s all too intense – too much of me and too little of the things that really interest me,” said the actor.
After the premiere of the film “Gladiator II”, Paul Mescal found himself in the center of attention of both media and fans. Interest in him grew to such an extent that even the smallest details about his private life made headlines.
In an interview for Harper’s Bazaar, the actor spoke openly about how much comments about his privacy hurt him. “It’s these personal things that hurt me the most. This is no one’s business and should remain out of the public eye” he confessed. He also noted that the sense of entitlement with which people approach information about him is extremely frustrating for him.
“People think they have the right to know everything. It pisses me off,” he added bluntly.
After the huge success of “Gladiator II”, Paul Mescal decided to minimize his activity on social media. The actor gave up Twitter and changed his Instagram account to private. He only posts sporadically there, which allows him to maintain more control over who has access to his content.
Mescal’s decision is an example that even in the face of international success, it is worth setting boundaries and taking care of your mental health. For the actor, the priority is now to maintain a balance between professional and personal life, without the constant surveillance of the media and fans online.
