Patrick Wilson in Poland! Mastercard OFF CAMERA will personally welcome guests

The 17th International Festival of Independent Cinema Mastercard OFF CAMERA 2024 starts on April 26. The organizers reveal the next guests, including Patrick Wilson. He will receive the “Against the Tide” award, awarded since 2010 to people who have made particular contributions to independent cinema. Its winners in previous years included: David Thewlis, John Malkovich and Agnieszka Holland.

“We have long been full of admiration for Patrick Wilson's acting talent. Almost fifteen years ago, during one of the first editions of the Mastercard OFF CAMERA Festival, we showed the great “Trap”, in which, alongside Elliot Page, he plays the main role. Years later, we are returning to this masterfully constructed thriller, an unforgettable cinematic game of the proverbial 'cat and mouse', on the occasion of Wilson's visit to our festival. We award him the Against the Tide Award, in recognition of his rich filmography and achievements, primarily for consistently following his own artistic path which combines orders that are contradictory by definition: a career in theater and Broadway musicals, playing leading roles in global box-office hits and blockbusters – such as the “The Conjuring” and “Aquaman” series – with appearing in morally bold productions, such as “Angels in America” and “Little Children”, which have permanently entered the canon of contemporary (pop) culture,” said Grzegorz Stępniak, Artistic Director of the International Festival of Independent Cinema Mastercard OFF CAMERA.

The film “The Trap” tells the story of a meeting between teenage Hayley and a much older Jeff – a handsome fashion photographer – preceded by conversations in an online chat. When they meet at his house, the true intentions of both parties are revealed, which may have serious and deadly consequences.

A special screening of the film “The Trap” with Patrick Wilson will take place on Saturday, April 27 at the Kijów Cinema at 7 p.m. during Mastercard OFF CAMERA. Tickets available for sale soon!

Patrick Wilson – born in Virginia and raised in St. Petersburg, Florida. He studied fine arts at Carnegie Mellon University. He took his first steps on theater stages.

The breakthrough role in Wilson's career was in the famous HBO miniseries “Angels in America” (2003). He received nominations for the Golden Globes and Emmy Awards for it. He was also nominated for a Golden Globe Award for his role as Lou Solverson in the TV series “Fargo”. Other famous productions with his participation include “The Conjuring”, “Prometheus”, “Jack Strong”, “Little Children” and “The Phantom of the Opera”.

Recently, we could admire him in the spectacular series “Aquaman” as Orm, the brother of the titular superhero. He recently made his debut on the other side of the camera thanks to the fifth part of the “Insidious” series, subtitled “The Red Door”.

Together with several other filmmakers, he founded the Cinema Lab company, which aims to restore the former glory of cinemas affected by the pandemic. The company plans to purchase, renovate and reactivate cinemas throughout the United States.
