Diane Warren is a composer known, among others, from cooperation with Cher, Ace of Base, Toni Braxton, Celine Dion, Aerosmith, Whitney Houston. The 67-year-old American has recorded as many as 33 songs that reached the Top 10 of the Billboard charts.
Already in the late 1980s, the president of the EMI label called her “the most important composer in the world”.
She wrote such hits as, among others: “If I Could Turn Back Time” by Cher (check!), “Because You Loved Me” by Celine Dion, “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith or “Un-Break My Heart” by Toni Braxton. Her songs were also sung by such stars as: Taylor Swift, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, Elton John, Bryan Adams, Barbra Streisand, Rod Stewart, Mariah Carey, Lady Gaga, Paloma Faith, Carrie Underwood, Michael Bolton, Chicago, Belinda Carlisle, Ace Of Base, Starship, Brandy and Aaliyah.
In total, her songs were nominated for Oscars in the best film song category as many as 15 times. This first happened in 1987 with a recording “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” performed by the group Starship from film “Mannequin”. Then the statuette went to Franke Previte, John DeNikola and Donald Markovitz behind “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” from film “Dirty Dancing” (a duet sang Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes).
Nominations were repeated regularly, especially in the late 1990s (year after year from 1996 to 1999) and in the last decade – Since 2014, it has only once been disappreciated by the Academy. In the final vote, however, the prizes always went to someone else. So much so that in 2022 Diane Warren was awarded an Honorary Oscar.
At this year’s gala, the composer appeared with a nomination for sung by Becky G track “The Fire Inside” (check!), which she created for the film “Flamin’ Hot: Taste of Success”. Ultimately, Warren did not receive a statuette this year either – she received the award Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas behind “What Was I Made For?” (Look!) from film “Barbie”. Let us add that this is the second Oscar for the 22-year-old singer, having won for a song two years earlier “No Time To Die” from the adventure film of the same title James Bond.
