“One Battle After Another” is the story of Pat (Leonardo DiCaprio), a former revolutionary who has been hiding for years with his daughter Willa (Chase Infiniti). When Colonel Lockjaw (Sean Penn), who is chasing him, gets on their trail, the man will do anything to save the person closest to him. Unfortunately, recently he has been mainly involved in taking all kinds of illegal substances, so the transition to action is not easy for him.
The film hit theaters in September 2025. It grossed over $191 million, making it the highest-grossing work in filmography Anderson. However, its costs are estimated at up to $175 million. For this reason, it will definitely not bring profits to Warner Brothers.
According to the “World of Reel” website, “One Battle After Another” will be available on VOD services for purchase or rental on November 20, 2025. A copy of the film on physical media will be available much later – in January 2026, just before the announcement of the Oscar nominations. The debut date of Anderson’s work on the HBO Max platform, where it will be available as part of a subscription, is also unknown.
According to the “Gold Derby” website, which predicts the winners of American entertainment industry awards, “One Battle After Another” will receive at least six gold statuettes: for production of the year, director, adapted screenplay, leading role for DiCaprio and supporting roles for Penn and Teyana Taylor.
Nominations for the 98th Academy Awards will be announced on January 22, 2026. The statuettes will be awarded on March 16. The ceremony will be hosted by comedian Conan O’Brien.
