OpenAI is on track to present its first device in the second half of 2026. The release date was confirmed by Chris Lehane, Global Director at OpenAI.
New OpenAI device. Will it take over the world like AirPods?
Various reports indicate that OpenAI is working on prototypes of small screenless devices that will interact with users. Company CEO Sam Altman has been teasing the AI-powered device since last May, when the company acquired former Apple design chief Jony Ive. However, no details were provided at that time.
Now Altman claims that the new device will be “calmer” than a smartphone and everyone will be surprised by its simplicity.
Smart Pikachu, which has previously shared information about alleged unreleased Apple products, is pointing to an expected AI device from OpenAI on the X platform. According to Smart Pikachu, it will be an audio product and its internal name is “Sweetpea”. The premiere is scheduled for September, and forecast sales in the first year are 40-50 million units.
The device is designed to resemble headphones that are placed behind the ears, and when not in use – they are placed in a small oval case that can be stored in a pocket or hung around the neck. It’s not yet known what exactly Altman and Ive’s gadget can do, but it apparently plans to replace AirPods.
Most of the information is still speculation, based mainly on an interview Ive and Altman gave in November. They explained virtually nothing in it, but announced that they were striving to create a breakthrough product.
