New “Game of Thrones”? Not at all! Another series very similar to “Shogun”

In recent days, the series “Szogun” has been receiving a lot of praise. It is also compared to the biggest television hits, and above all to “Game of Thrones”. Is it right? Director Jonathan van Tulleken spoke on this matter.

“Shogun” director Jonathan van Tulleken confirmed that the new series focuses on intrigue and is a character study. A dangerous world, full of violence and various threats. JHowever, what would he compare the latest production to?

“A better reference than ‘Game of Thrones’ would be ‘Succession’ or ‘House of Cards’“.

As the director mentions, it is a story about two cultures that “look at each other” a bit. What issues does “Shogun” touch on?

According to the official description, “Shogun” is a production that takes viewers to Japan in 1600, which was then on the verge of civil war. The main character is Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada), who must fight for his life when his enemies from the Council of Regents unite against him. Meanwhile, a mysterious ship, whose navigator is John Blackthorne, is found off the coast of a certain fishing village (Cosmo Jarvis). He is English and has knowledge that can be useful to Toranaga in tipping the scales of victory to his side and at the same time reducing the influence of the Jesuits and the Portuguese in Japan.

There are currently two episodes of “Shogun” available, and subsequent episodes will appear weekly on Disney+ until April 23.
