Netflix has made user data available in Poland. The big scandal with “Squid Game” fans

Directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk, the series follows the story of Seong Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae), facing overwhelming problems. A man falling into increasing debts is unable to take care of his sick mother or support his daughter, who after the divorce moved in with his ex-wife. He happily accepts the offer to join the competition with billions of won at stake. However, he does not know that he is agreeing to competition, which, under the guise of children’s games, becomes an uncompromising fight for survival.

Series in just twelve days it became the most popular title in the Netflix library since the beginning of the website. Capturing worldwide attention, it dominated the Top 10 for nine consecutive weeks – the first non-English-language series – and made history by winning Emmy Awards.

The stakes are even higher in the upcoming season. Despite his experiences in the previous competition, Seong Gi-hun (Player 456) once again enters the deadly game. He fiercely undertakes a desperate mission to reveal the truth about Squid Game. However, the main character’s warnings remain ignored, and tension increases when other players question his intentions.

The second season of “Squid Game” will appear on Netflix on December 26.

On the occasion of the premiere of the next season of “Squid Game” Netflix organized a competition for fans of the series. The event is to be held under the name “Squid Game Arena” and will offer participants physical competitions as well as a premiere screening of the first episode. In the regulations, the event is described as a “serious” matter.

To get a ticket to the event, you had to register in the system on a special website, providing your name, telephone number and e-mail address. Candidates also had to answer the competition question:

“Imagine a hypothetical situation: You get a chance to come up with a new Squid Game. There is one condition – it must be based on a game from your childhood. Describe what this competition could look like.”

Qualified people received a message by e-mail. They were greatly surprised when, after clicking on the link sent by e-mail, they saw the entire list of accepted candidates, including their data. Netflix mistakenly sent information that should never have been in the hands of event participants. There were over 4,800 people on the list!

The editors of the “niebezpiecznik.pl” portal have determined that the data published in the e-mails are true.

The Netflix Press Office confirmed that the data was made available online. The official statement reads:

On December 11, unauthorized persons gained access and obtained information from the competition website used for the Squid Game Arena event – www.squidgamearena.pl.

The office also announced that all steps had been taken to correct the error: support would be provided to the injured, and the company supervising the website immediately stopped the registration process.

“The website was managed by an external agency – upon receipt of the information, steps were taken immediately to correct the error. The company managing the site immediately suspended the registration process and blocked logins to prevent further unauthorized access. We are now working to inform all affected participants and provide them with appropriate support, and participants who won entry to Squid Game Arena will be informed about the details of the event shortly,” we read in the press release.
