Metallica doesn't like guests on their albums. They just let her do it

Only once in the history of the band Metallica has anyone appeared as a guest on any album. This is about Marianne Faithfull, whose voice can be heard in “The Memory Remains”. The song was created in 1997 and was part of the album “Reload”which also featured the songs “The Unforgiven II”, “Fuel” and “Better Than You”.

Faithfull is best known for the song “As Tears Go By”. Privately, the singer was associated with Mick Jagger, but this relationship was short and stormy. Marianne suffered a miscarriage and soon broke up with the frontman The Rolling Stones.

Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield they founded Metallica in 1981. Within a few years, the group became one of the main (along with Slayer and Exodus) representatives of a new type of heavy metal, which was called thrash metal. Today, the band is among the top ten artists who have sold the largest number of albums in the USA.

In 1983, Metallica's debut album was released – “Kill 'Em All“. The group then went on concerts in the USA and Europe, quickly gaining the favor of fans. After returning from the tour, the musicians started working on their second album with a Danish producer Flemming Rassmussen. The recording session took place in Copenhagen.

Plate “Ride The Lightning” was released in the summer of 1984 and was proof of the band's development. Metallica offered more mature music than on their debut, and several compositions from “two” permanently entered the concert repertoire.

In 1986, the album was released “Master Of Puppets“, considered by many to be the best metal album of all time. He gave the album its sound again Rassmussenand mixed the material in Los Angeles Michael Wagner. The album was a great success, and Metallica was given the opportunity to open concerts Ozzy Osbourne.

In 1988, Metallica's fourth major album was released “…And Justice For All“. The album reached sixth place on the Billboard charts and was nominated for a Grammy Award. Metallica went on a world tour, during which they gave spectacular concerts. “…And Justice For All” became a big hit. “They”for which a music video was shot (Metallica received a Grammy for this song).

To this day, the band's greatest commercial success is the album released in August 1991 “Metallica” (due to the cover referred to as “Black Album“). This album marked the beginning of Metallica's cooperation with Bob Rock. The songs “Enter Sandman” and the ballads “Nothing Else Matters” and “Unforgiven” became big hits. The Metallica album landed at number one on the charts in many countries around the world. It has been sold to this day. it in over 15 million copies.

Next release, “Load“, was released in June 1996. Bob Rock sat behind the console again. The musicians' image changed and the compositions became softer. During the recording session of “Load”, so many songs were created that already in 1997, another Metallica album appeared – “ReLoad“. In the composition “Memory Remains” from it, Marianne Faithful guest sang. The musical content, which is not surprising, was very similar to that of “Load”, although there was no hit like “Until It Sleeps” or “Mama Said” .

In June 2003, the album was released “St. Anger“, which probably sparked the most discussion of all Metallica releases. The compositions are much sharper than on the previous two albums, but there is not a single solo in the over an hour of material. In addition, there is a very raw drum sound.

The metal legend also released a highly controversial joint album with the alternative icon Lou Reed – “Lulu” (2011).

Let us add that as part of the promotion of the latest album “72 Seasons” (2023), Metallica will play two concerts at the PGE Narodowy in Warsaw – on July 5 and 7.
