Mateusz Damięcki reveals the behind-the-scenes of his role in “Furioza”. He was close to death

“Furioza” is a film inspired by true events that shows a world that most of us have no idea about. The world of fans and the women who are in relationships with them. The film’s script was created for several years and is based on real accounts of gangsters, journalists and agents of the Central Police Investigation Bureau. In October this year, “Druga Furioza” debuted on Netflix.

He plays the main character, Golden Mateusz Damięcki. The actor was highly praised for his performance, which involved a physical transformation for him. Many viewers and critics believe that this is the best role of his career.

The role in “Furioza” undoubtedly required a lot of effort from Mateusz Damięcki. In an interview with Agnieszka Matracka in the “Ja wysiadam” program, he admitted that at some point he was in a life-threatening condition.

“You were close to death because water can kill,” he heard from the doctor. The actor had to devote a lot of effort to intense training and also went through a dehydration process.

In the same interview, he revealed what his everyday life was like while working on the film set.

“You finish the scene and people say, damn, cool, great. The director says: ‘Okay, great’. Two or three scenes, each one is done on point, because we already understand each other without words. And you finish, they take off your make-up. You come home, everyone is asleep. You wake up in the morning, everyone is asleep. You go to work, you work 16 hours. (…) During the break, you don’t sleep because you have to catch up on something and you have 6 days in a row, for example, that you can’t see no one from your family, but everyone is sleeping when you come and when you leave. And suddenly it all ends, and you still have the need to go to the gym, so you go to the gym, but you basically look in the mirror and your hair is slowly growing back, but slowly.

Damięcki admitted that it was difficult for him to leave the role after the shooting.

“With ‘The Second Fury’ I was fed up with myself for two months, and it still turned out that I couldn’t cope with it. It was the hardest thing. The production or pre-production of the film itself is nothing compared to what happened later. And paradoxically, the funniest and at the same time the most tragic thing for me is because it gives me some information for the future, that maybe it will look like this for me in the future.
