Agnieszka Smoczyńska is a laureate of numerous film awards, including Golden Lviv for “Silent Twins”, awards for the best directorial debut or a second film at the Polish feature films festival in Gdynia for “Fuga” and “Daughter of Dansing”, for which she also received “Eagle”. Her two films, “Fuga” and “Silent Twin”, were presented at the Cannes Film Festival. She is also a winner of the Global Filmmaking Award at the Sundance Film Festival. The world of cinema consumed her in high school and she already knew that she wanted to take directive. Before she started the Film School at the Film Department of the University of Silesia in Katowice, she studied the history of art and cultural studies.
After graduating in Katowice, she decided to study at Wajda’s school, where she made a 30-minute film “Aria Diva” inspired by the story of Olga Tokarczuk “Ariadna na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na rył During this project, she collaborated with Robert Bolesto, the author of the script for the later “Daughters of Dancing”, a film that would consolidate Agnieszka Smoczyńska’s position among the most promising directors and directors of her generation. Recently, she made her debut at the National Opera, directed by Verdi’s “Simon Boccanegra”, bravely transferring the 14th-century world into the future, to the post-apocalyptic world affected by a climate disaster.
Viewers 18. Mastercard Off Camera will be able to again watch “Daughters of Dancing” on the big screen during a special show with Agnieszka Smoczyńska and invited filmmakers. The meeting on May 2, 2025 in the Malopolska Garden of Sztuki at 19.00 will be hosted by Anna Tatarska.
On April 11, the sale of tickets for individual screenings also started, which also means that the show of shows was published. Nearly 100 films, almost 200 screenings, special shows, as well as meetings open to the audience in as many as four outdoor cinemas (in a film town at Galeria Krakowska, on Szczepański Square, on the Podgórski Market Square and in the botanical garden of the Jagiellonian University). The program also includes, as always, Q&A with special guests, stars and talents.
The MasterCard Off Camera 2025 festival starts on April 25 and will last until May 4. On May 3, on Saturday, at the Teatr im. Juliusz Słowacki will be a closing gala, during which we will meet the winners in all competitions in which the prize pool is over PLN 300,000.
