“Mafia Women 2”: Five years since its premiere. A famous role of Aleksandra Grabowska

“Mafia Women 2” is a continuation of the action film directed by Patryk Vega. The film debuted in Polish cinemas on February 22, 2019. What is he talking about? After taking over the capital, Nanny’s gang (Agnieszka Dygant) is preparing for the largest smuggling operation in the history of the country. The group, which is a terror in Warsaw, imports a ton of Colombian drugs into the country. When the goods disappear under suspicious circumstances and the cartel demands their heads, the deadly Aida (Angie Cepeda) comes to Poland. The Colombian finds an ally in the person of a smuggler from Tricity – Mat (Piotr Adamczyk). The mafioso has long wanted to strengthen his position in the underworld, but his plans are complicated by tense relations with his rebellious daughter – Stella (Aleksandra Grabowska).

At the same time, Swollen Anka (Katarzyna Warnke) is released. A maniacal shopaholic who loves luxury, she miraculously survived prison hell, after which she finds it difficult to find her way in her new reality. However, an unexpected event is enough for her to be targeted by the national media and overnight to become a “mafia celebrity”. At the same time abroad, in Morocco, Siekiera (Aleksandra Popławska) experiences a stormy romance with Amir (Otar Saralidze). When a man dies in a daring action with the participation of GROM commandos, the assassin, burning with revenge, returns to Poland. He has a deadly plan to fulfill – we read in the official description.

The film “Mafia Women 2” attracted 373,982 viewers during its first weekend in cinemas and… did not receive favorable reviews. Film critic Artur Cichmiński wrote in a text for Interia: “Vega writes scenes and then pastes them wherever it suits him or wherever he can. As a result, over two hours is definitely too long for something that looks like one big gag, a parody of a parody, a forced comedy, a thriller by accident. Plus a pinch of soap opera. And if the director of the first “Pitbull” used pastiche, made self-parody, played with the viewer, but at the same time gave a solid, elementally constructed story, it would be quite a tasteful piece of cinema combining the spirit of even Tarantino with the sharpness of “Sicario”. Well, it isn’t. And it won’t be for a long time,” he summed up, rating the title 4/10.

The photos for the second part of “Mafia Women” were shot not only in Poland. Work on the set also took place in Germany, and even in Dubai and Colombia. The film’s cast included popular Spanish-speaking actors: Latin American mega star Angie Cepeda, known to Poles from the soap operas “Fiorella” and “Luz Maria”, and Spanish actor Enrique Arce from the Emmy-winning Netflix hit “House of Cards”.

In parallel with both film parts, a six-episode series was created, which debuted on the Showmax platform. “Mafia Women 2” was intended only for viewers from 15 years of age, and the series – from 18 years of age.

“Viewers of the series ‘Mafia Women’ will get a completely different beginning of the story, as well as an extended film part at all stages of the story. Just like for the film, we also prepared detailed documentation here. I had dozens of hours of conversations with mafia women – wives, daughters and lovers of gangsters” – Patryk Vega talked about the series.

“Viewers will therefore be able to learn much more about each of the female characters. The history of the Mokotów mafia has also been expanded. Its gangsters told me, among other things, about the realities of the war with the Żoliborz group, which was reflected in the series,” added the director.

The film “Mafia Women 2” was the cinema debut for Aleksandra Grabowska, daughter of Piotr Grabowski and Marta Konarska. The then 24-year-old actress played one of the main roles – she played the role of Stella.

“Stella is the daughter of a mafia man – Mat, played by Piotr Adamczyk. She has a difficult relationship with him. When she finds out about his new partner, she rebels and starts life on her own. I think that at the beginning she is trying to escape from the criminal world, but this it gets to her anyway,” Vega said in an interview with PAP Life.

The heroine played by Grabowska starts stealing cars from Germany. Later, she enters into a complicated relationship with a young gangster.

For Aleksandra Grabowska, the role in “Mafia Women 2” was her debut on the big screen. Previously, she starred in the series “Belfer”, and also guest starred in “Druga chance” and “Komisarz Aleks”. Since then, the actress has been making a dizzying career. Recently she could be seen, among others, in the series “Forst”, “Brothers” and “Infamia”.
