Maciej Pawlak in the main role in the premiere performance of the Rampa Theater

Maciej Pawlak Despite his young age, he has played many main roles in important musical performances, including: in: “Tick, tick… BOOM!”, “Pippin”, “Thrill me”, “West side story”, “Jesus Christ Superstar” and “Pretty Woman”. The role of Patryk in the play “Whirling Sex. Polish Love Story” brings something that Maciej Pawlak particularly likes – the opportunity to enter into a dialogue with myth and look at his hero from the perspective of a person living in the 21st century.

“When the film 'Dirty Dancing' appeared, the screens were dominated by aggressive, massive characters who set the direction for looking at masculinity. Johnny, played by Swayze, introduced the aspect of delicacy, focus on the other person, liberation from the forms imposed from above. In the film he led until Baba wakes up. There is no such need in our show, we do not live in the 1960s like the characters in the film,” says Maciej Pawlak. “Patryk, whom I play, uses dance to allow our 'Baba', i.e. Mania, to shed the burden of being a perfectionist, which takes the form of terror towards herself. Thanks to Patryk, Mania gets to know the taste of life here and now, and as Patryk I feel great, because in everyday life I am a completely different person than him, and playing in the so-called opposition to myself is one of the most interesting acting experiences,” he adds.

Maciej Pawlak, in addition to intensive work in theaters, also takes part in musical projects presenting musical works to audiences in various parts of Poland. He is currently on the Accantus Live 2024 tour, and soon plans to resume concerts promoting the Tides and Times album. The next concert will take place on April 19 at the Musical Theater in Łódź.

The premiere performances of the musical “Whirling Sex. Polish Love Story” directed by Tadeusz Kabicz will take place on April 19-25 and May 15-19 at the Rampa Theater. Maciej Pawlak can be seen in performances scheduled for: April 20 and 23, as well as May 15-17 and May 21.
