“The Doll” has been adapted twice so far. The first attempt to adapt the novel to the screen was made by Wojciech Has. In 1968 he made a film with Beata Tyszkiewicz and Mariusz Dmochowski in the main roles. In turn, in 1977, Ryszard Ber made a series in which they appeared Małgorzata Braunek and Jerzy Kamas.
Now two more adaptations of Bolesław Prus’s novel are being created. The film is directed by Maciej Kawalski and the Netflix series is directed by Paweł Maślona.
“Prus’s book was created as a popular novel, for people, and yet it has stood the test of time and for over 135 years it has captivated both the general public and literary scholars and novelists. And this is my dream of a film – attractive, for people, gripping, heartbreaking. A film to which one wants to come back,” assured Kawalski, who in 2022 delighted the audience with the film “Dangerous Gentlemen”, an unusual comedy crime film with an all-star cast.
In its production, Stanisław Wokulski and Izabela Łęcka will be played by Marcin Dorociński and Kamila Urzędowska.
We also know that Ignacy Rzecki will be played by Marek Kondrat, who returns from acting retirement after many years especially for this reason.
The film will also feature: Krystyna Janda (Countess Joanna Karolowa, Łęcki’s sister), Andrzej Seweryn (Tomasz Łęcki), Agata Kulesza (Mrs. Meliton), Maja Komorowska (President Zasławska), Cezary Żak (Baron Dalski), Maria Dębska (Kazimiera Wąsowska), Karolina Gruszka (Florentyna), Mateusz Damięcki (Kazimierz Starski).
One of the most talented Polish actors of the young generation, Filip Pławiak, has just joined this wonderful team. He will play the idealist Julian Ochocki.
“He is Izabela Łęcka’s cousin, a man of science and progress, fascinated by technology and faith in the future. In a world full of appearances and glitter, Ochocki is someone who really wants to ‘put wings on humanity'” – wrote on the social media of the film “The Doll”.
“What connects me with Ochocki is the desire to discover and create. Although in slightly different spaces, with the same passion,” the actor assured.
