$30 million was enough for animation “Kung Fu Panda 4” to take first place on the list of most watched films in the US. The DreamWorks Animation production, which debuted in theaters on March 6, has already earned $108.7 million in North America and a total of $188.8 million worldwide.
After his recent dangerous adventures, in which he defeated world-class villains thanks to his unrivaled courage and insane martial arts skills, Po, the Dragon Warrior, is summoned by fate to… give it up. More precisely, he is to become the spiritual leader of the Valley of Peace – this is how the action in the fourth part of the cult animated series is presented. There are some obvious problems with this. First, Po knows as much about spiritual leadership as he does about the paleo diet, and second, he must quickly find and train a new Dragon Warrior before he can take up his new position. To make matters worse, a sorceress comes into play – Chameleon, a tiny lizard that can shapeshift into any creature, large or small. Po will need help. He will find it with the smart vixen Zhen, whose skills will prove invaluable. In their quest to protect the Valley of Tranquility from the Chameleon, this comedic duo will have to work together. PO will discover that friends can be found in the most unexpected places.
The film took second place in the American box office, with a small loss of only PLN 900,000 “Dune: Part Two”. Production is also doing well in other countries around the world. This weekend, it earned another $51.2 million and easily maintained its global leadership position. On the account of an epic production Denis Villeneuve there is already 494.7 million dollars, of which over 200 million comes from the United States alone.
“Dune: Part Two” follows the impressive journey of Paul Atreides as he forges an alliance with Chani and the Fremen. At the same time, he goes on the warpath, burning with the desire for revenge on the conspirators who led to the downfall of his family. Faced with a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, Paul wants to prevent a tragic future that only he can predict.
We will see him again in the main role Timothee Chalamet, who reprises the role of Paul Atreides in the spectacular production. “In the first film, Paul Atreides was a student. In the second one, we will see him become a leader,” the star revealed. In the sequel to “Dune” the following will also return to their roles: Zendaya, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgård, Charlotte Rampling and Javier Bardem. The new faces will include: Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Christopher Walker and Léa Seydoux.
Both parts of “Dune” made by Villenueve are adaptations of the famous novel by Frank Herbert. The director immediately decided that two films should be made, because the novel was too large to fit the events described in one into one. But this became possible only because the first part received great ratings from viewers and critics. The second part of the production is one of the most anticipated films of 2024. It was originally scheduled to hit theaters on November 3, 2023. However, due to strikes in Hollywood, the premiere of the production had to be postponed.
The adventure production “My Dog Arthur” with Mark Wahlberg and Simu Liu in the main roles recorded a worse result than expected on its premiere weekend in American cinemas. The film earned only $7.5 million, but it was enough to take third place at the box office.
The top five was completed by the horror film “Delusion” ($5.5 million) and the biographical film “Cabrini” ($2.9 million).
