“To Kill a Miss” is a three-episode documentary series that presents not only an intimate portrait of Agnieszka Kotlarska’s life, but also a study of platonic love that gets out of control and turns into a dangerous obsession. The production aims not only to pay tribute to the icon of beauty, but also to draw attention to the problem of stalking – a phenomenon that remains equally dangerous three decades later.

The director and co-writer of the three-episode documentary series is Maciej Bieliński, and the co-writer of the script is Ewa Wilczyńska. Tomasz Ziółkowski is responsible for the photos, Agnieszka Białek for the editing, Katarzyna Małek for the set design, and Stefan Wesołowski is the music composer. The producers are Sylwester Banaszkiewicz and Marcin Kurek from Mediabrigade, and Magda Szczawińska from HBO Max. The project is co-financed by the Polish Film Institute and the Center for Culture and Art in Wrocław.
“We looked through hundreds of hours of archival recordings from the 1990s – both personal ones that Agnieszka and her husband recorded with a home VHS camera, as well as TV programs with her participation. We reached out to the police officers conducting the investigation and presented the unique testimony of the perpetrator himself, as well as the opinions of psychologists and psychiatrists,” says Maciej Bieliński.
“In New York, we talked to people who worked with Agnieszka when she was reaching the top of international modeling. All this in order to present to the viewers with due reverence this very moving, touching, but full of tragic tension story of impending fate,” adds the director and co-writer of the series.
The three-episode series will debut on HBO Max on December 17, 2025.
There is already a book available on the market entitled: “MISS. The Murder of Agnieszka Kotlarska”, by Ewa Wilczyńska. It is a moving reportage that, together with the documentary series “To Kill a Miss”, creates a holistic story about the backstage of fame, the secrets of the fashion world and the toxic fascination that turns into a deadly obsession.
