Kenneth Mitchell is dead. The actor known from the series “Jericho” and the movie “Captain Marvel” died at the age of 49. The cause of death were complications related to ASL, i.e. amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a chronic disease of the nervous system. Information about the death was announced by the actor’s family via his social media.
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of Kenneth Alexander Mitchell, a beloved father, husband, brother, uncle, son and dear friend,” the family said.
“For five and a half years, Ken faced a series of terrible challenges related to ALS. Against all odds, Ken managed to live a full and joyful life. He lived by the principle that each day is a gift and we never go through life alone,” his family wrote in statement on Instagram.
In 2020, Kenneth Mitchell went public in an interview with PEOPLE that he was battling the disease.
Kenneth Mitchell was born on November 25, 1974 in Toronto. The breakthrough in his career was his appearance in the film “Miracle in Lake Placid”, in which he played the role of Ralph Cox. He became very popular for his role in the TV series “Jericho”. Viewers could watch him as Eric Green in 2006-2008.
Mitchell played several characters on “Star Trek: Discovery.” He played Kol in the first installment, Kol-Sha and Tenavik in the second. In the third season, he played the character of Aurellio. Then his disease began to progress. “Being a part of ‘Star Trek’ inspires me and gives me purpose,” Kenneth Mitchell revealed to Syfy Wire in 2020. “I hope it will continue like this,” he added.
In 2019, he starred in the superhit “Captain Marvel”. He portrayed Joseph Danvers, the father of Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), who appeared in a flashback.
Kenneth Mitchell was married to American actress – Susan May Pratt. He had two children with her.
