Katie Leung: the “Harry Potter” star confessed the truth. No one knew what she was going through

Katie Leungwhich gained recognition thanks to the film “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”she recently made an honest confession. More than 20 years after the production’s premiere, the actress who plays Cho Chang talked about the painful opinions of fans of the series. Many viewers had no mercy for her.

In an interview with The Guardian, she admitted that she couldn’t cope with the comments she read about herself online. Although the producers of the production noticed the problem and offered psychological help on the set, the massive negative opinions had a strong impact on her psyche and self-confidence.

“We were in the spotlight at an age when you are very insecure about yourself. (…) I remember that I wanted to know what people were saying about me, so I checked it on the Internet. Nothing could stop me, because I was old enough to have a free hand here. I couldn’t cope with it,” she admitted honestly.

“All these things seeped into me and had a big impact. I think I made decisions based on what people wrote about me. I definitely became less open, more careful in what I said. I was convinced that I didn’t deserve this role,” she recalled.

During the interview, she also admitted that she “envies” the younger generation of stars who do not have to deal with such discrimination. The audience’s opinions made her lose her desire to develop in the film industry and retreat into the shadows. Ultimately, however, she returned to this career path because, despite all the unpleasant experiences, she felt that acting was her greatest passion.

In recent years, Leung has appeared primarily in British television series. She is also great at dubbing, as we saw during the premiere of “Arcane” (she voiced the character of Caitlyn). We will soon see her in the fourth season of “Bridgerton”. The actress will play Lady Amarinta Gun, the villain of the new installment of the popular Netflix series.
