“Chłopi” is a unique pictorial film animation based on the novel by Władysław Reymont. Against the background of the changing seasons and seasonal field work, the fate of the Boryna family and the beautiful, mysterious Jagna unfolds. The unique microworld of a rural community becomes an excuse to tell a universal and incredibly current story. A story about tragic love and life in a small community, where rules and brutal rules of the game assign everyone a specific place in the group, and going beyond the narrow limits may result in humiliation and rejection.

In one of the interviews, Kamila Urzędowska admitted that the character of Jagna is extremely close to her. The actress grew up in the countryside near Nysa, which made it easier for her to identify with the main character of “Peasants”.

“Jagna is very close to me. I know these realities and this girl. I grew up in a village near Nysa. Karłowice Wielkie, 300 inhabitants. My grandparents had a small farm: cows, pigs, a field. I helped them all my childhood. I remember the times when people carried water from a well, and my grandfather and I sowed grain by hand, following a mule. The tractor appeared when I was 10 years old,” she admitted in an interview with Obaj Style.

The young actress compared the inhabitants of the village where she lived and the characters of “Peasants”.

“My sister and I were raised by my mother. The church was the central point of village life. If you didn’t go to mass on Sunday, the whole village would talk to you. It was the same language as in ‘Chłopy’,” she concluded.
