This year, July 19, marks the 90th anniversary of the birth of Janusz Christa – a cartoonist, scriptwriter, joker, a man of many talents, and for me personally, my Grandfather and greatest Friend. Both the “Kreska” Foundation, which bears his name, and the Egmont publishing house decided to commemorate this extraordinary comic book creator. One of these activities is a new and at the same time old edition of the comic book “Szkoła latania”. In this birthday project, several dozen cartoonists pay tribute to the work of my Grandfather, whose comics probably influenced their lives. This is how I personally perceive it – says Paulina Christa, Janusz Christa’s granddaughter and president of the “Kreska” Foundation. – There is no denying that the works of Janusz Christa, entertaining and educating, have shaped several generations of Polish readers and continue to influence our children, for whom it is required reading in school in the fourth grade. For me, it is also an interesting and probably the first such experiment in Poland. I myself am curious how it will be received by my Grandfather’s fans – she adds.
As part of the celebration of the 90th anniversary of Janusz Christa’s birth, the “Kreska” Foundation is preparing the “Kajko and Kokosz invite” festival. At the Manhattan Shopping Center in Gdańsk on July 19-20, fans of Janusz Christa will be able to take part in comic book workshops, author meetings, buy old and new comic book issues, or shake hands with Kajko and Kokosz.
The special guest of the festival will be Kari Korhonen – author of the album “The Memoirs of Scrooge McDuck” and one of the co-creators of the album “The Extraordinary Fates of Scrooge McDuck”.
