During the last episode of the “Kuba Wojewódzki” program, the leader asked Julia Wieniawa a question that quickly became an inflammatory point of online discussion.
“How will a 26-year-old from generation cope with such a motto that poverty is a state of mind?” – Wojewódzki asked.
Wieniawa, though with a visible hesitation, replied: “Unfortunately, but I think so. I know it is controversial, but I do not come from a rich family. As a child I knew what awaits me in my life. I unwittingly affirmated my life and felt that I would always be able to afford what I want” – said the artist in the program.

It was enough for it to boil on the web. Wieniawa was accused of a lack of empathy and detachment from reality. Commentators pointed out that such words, spoken by a person who is successful in show business, may sound like a cheek for people struggling with true poverty.

After a few days of silence, the actress decided to speak. Under the entry of Karolina Korwin Piotrowska, who provided the critical post of reporter Mariusz Rakowski, Wieniawa published an extensive statement.
“I am sorry that your opinions are based on clickbait titles. In the whole conversation it is clear that I did not say the words ‘poverty is a state of mind’, but Kuba. I answered the tendencally asked question, talking about my experience. I was stress, in an entertainment program where it is difficult to submit your thoughts, because you are still interrupting in the middle of the sentence” – explained the actress.
Wieniawa emphasized that her statement referred only to people who have possibilities, but do not use them.
“I did not mean extreme cases. The thesis ‘poverty is a state of mind’ is not mine and I think it sounds harmful. I’m sorry if I offended anyone,” she added.
Korwin Piotrowska: “In such programs you are only a content”
Wieniawa’s words apparently worked because Karolina Korwin Piotrowska reacted again – this time with greater understanding. The journalist praised the young artist for courage, but she did not hide that the whole situation should be a lesson for her.
“Julia Wieniawa has eggs and the courage that she answered. But this story should teach her something. In such programs you are content, nothing more” – wrote Korwin Piotrowska on Instagram.
The journalist also warned that in the era of social media, every word could become an inflammatory spark.
“You have to be very careful about words. More than ever. It will only be worse, because the world of algorithms works so that it polarizes us,” she emphasized.
The topic of money is still divided by society
Korwin Piotrowska, however, was not the only one who took the floor. The actress criticized, among others Jan Śpiewak and Gabriela Oberbek, while designer Joanna Przetakiewicz stood up in her defense.
“There is nothing wrong with this. Julia simply believes in the strength of affirmation and work on himself,” argued the founder of the Era Women’s Foundation in an interview with “Vogue Polska”.
In turn, Piotrowska noticed that the money – or lack of it – always arouse emotions.
“The rich often do not know why they speak about the poor. Money is an inflammatory motif everywhere. Plus the whole story is that Julia showed the class.”
