Julia Kamińska about the album “Sublimacja”: “I abandoned all limitations” (INTERVIEW)

She is irritated by questions about why she curses, because in her opinion she has the right to do so and it is nothing extraordinary. She needed to curse to clearly define what she was dealing with and how toxic her relationship was. “I abandoned all limitations” – she tells Interia Muzyka Julia Kaminskawho released an album in June “Sublimation”. The title is not accidental, because for the actress it is an artistic metamorphosis without any half-measures. The album contains 14 strong songs, musically and lyrically, which are a record of the 36-year-old’s authentic emotions and experiences.

She is neither a singing actress nor a performing vocalist. She emphasizes that she is herself and the solo album is her state of consciousness. The song “We are doing well” tells the story of a failed partnership and taking on the role of a caretaker of another person. This puts out the fire, kills emotions and disrupts the relationship between partners. Many saw in her, as well as in the song “Plastic”as in a mirror of their relationships. “This is the coolest thing in creating, when there are people who will feel it and understand what I want to say,” admits Julia Kamińska.

The producers of the songs are: Skubas and Paul Odoszewskiwho collaborates with Sanah, Dawid Podsiadło, Ania Dąbrowska and Kwiat Jabłoni, but also with Mahmood, an Italian vocalist and performer who came second in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2019. Julia herself is not going to Eurovision, but she has her own tips on who could conquer the European stage. “It would have to be a person who has a crazy idea and charisma – and that would be Mr. Savyan – or an extraordinary vocal ability and that would be Krzysztof Iwaneczko,” the artist revealed.

For Julia Kamińska, this is a completely new path, because she has taken her own, controversial material to the big stages. As she says, although in the theatre she has direct contact with the audience, during concerts she does not hide behind a character, she is herself. However, she is consistent and does not intend to hide or sugarcoat her message. She is aware that controversy is part of the profession she performs. Someone recently wished her death. “I am not afraid,” she adds, and this strength can be heard in her own material.

Although the songs on “Sublimacja” contain lyrics that can strike with a right hook like a seasoned boxer, Julia Kamińska admits that they give many people encouragement, strength and courage to fight for themselves, to break away from their current trap, to leave behind difficult experiences and be reborn internally. “Not only women. It is a very important sign for me that I have done something universal,” says the artist, adding that people who are stuck in toxic relationships are actually stronger than they think.

Some of the lyrics for the album were written in Olsztyn, during previous editions of the Green Festival. It was then, sitting under one of the trees, that Julia Kamińska materialized her emotions and inner aggression. “Five years ago I wouldn’t be ready to write such lyrics, I was in a completely different place in life,” she says in an interview with Interia Muzyka. Although she is aware that the best songs are created under the influence of strong, negative experiences, she admits that something good can also be written under the influence of positive ones.

This year she performed on the stage of the Olsztyn Green Festival and admits that she fulfilled her dream. “For some time I thought that I would not write anymore, because I hope I would not experience such strong emotions anymore. But I want to continue singing,” says Julia Kamińska and admits that she had a problem expressing anger. She considers writing a kind of therapy. “It is a therapeutic tool, to write down what you have experienced, to write a letter to someone. Putting it down on paper helps you organize everything,” the artist sums up.

Julia Kamińska is starting to film a new series and it won’t be a comedy role. But you can still see her in comedy – the actress is starring in the play “Ostra droga” (“Hard Ride”).
