“Joker: Folie à deux” is announced as a musical. In addition to Phoenix and Lady Gaga, the cast also includes: Brendan Gleeson, Zazie Beetz, Jacob Lofland and Catherine Keener.
The subtitle of the second part of the film, taken from French, draws attention. The phrase “folie a deux” can be directly translated as “the madness of two”.
However, this phrase is also the name of a disease entity known as induced paranoia or imparted paranoia. It is a mental disorder in which a person closely related to the patient begins to share his or her paranoid thoughts and delusions. The use of this term in the title of the second part of “Joker” may suggest that the topic will be the relationship between the main character and Harley Quinn.
“Joker” was one of the most talked about films of 2019. The film received the Golden Lion in Venice and 11 Oscar nominations, two of which – for the leading actor (Joaquin Phoenix) and composer Hildur Guðnadóttir – turned into golden statuettes.
The second part of the film inspired by the story of Batman’s nemesis will tell the story of Arthur Fleck’s (Phoenix) relationship with Dr. Harleen Quinzel (Lady Gaga). The psychologist, under the influence of the criminal, will lose herself in madness and join him as Harley Quinn. The film is not related to other DC comic book adaptations.
Filming ended in April 2023. The premiere is scheduled for October 4, 2024.
