Jesse Eisenberg will not return as Mark Zuckerberg. The actor breaks the silence

Eisenberg is currently promoting “Illusion 3” by Ruben Fleisher, which will be released in cinemas on November 14, 2025. During his visit to “Today”, he was asked about his absence from “The Social Reckoning”. He answered after a moment’s thought.

“Look, to be honest, (I won’t appear in ‘The Social Reckoning’) for reasons that have nothing to do with how great the movie will be. When you play a character, sometimes you feel like you’ve finished that phase,” said Eisenberg, whose role as Zuckerberg earned him his first Oscar nomination. He received the second prize for the script of “True Pain”, which he also directed.

Eisenberg added that “The Social Reckoning” promises to be great. “I’m friends with Aaron Sorkin, who wrote it and will be on camera. Once again, I’m not involved in this for reasons that have nothing to do with how brilliant the movie will be,” he assured.

“The Social Network” David Fincher talked about founding the social media platform Facebook. The film grossed $226 million worldwide and received numerous awards, including three Oscars – for adapted screenplay, music and editing.

“The Social Reckoning” will refer to journalist Jeff Horowitz’s publication in the Wall Street Journal from 2021. The film will focus on the impact of social media on society. Horowitz will be played by Jeremy Allen White (series “The Bear”). Mikey Madison, Oscar winner for “Anora”, will play whistleblower Frances Haugen.

He took over Zuckerberg’s role Jeremy Strongwinner of numerous awards for the series “Succession”, nominated for an Oscar for “The Chosen One”. “It’s one of the best scripts I’ve ever read,” the actor admitted in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. He added that he had not discussed Zuckerberg’s role with Eisenberg. “I don’t think it would have any impact on what I would do with the character,” he admitted.

“The Social Reckoning” will hit theaters on October 9, 2026.
