Eisenberg is a Hollywood actor who has Polish roots and tries with all his might to show them due respect. His upcoming film will honor his ancestors from here and he himself calls it a “love letter to Poland”. The star will play one of the main roles in it, he also directed it and wrote the script. In the trailer published last Tuesday, the actor personally addresses Poles, inviting them to watch the trailer.
The plot tells the story of two cousins who, after their grandmother’s death, go on a sentimental journey to Poland to better learn about the past of their loved ones and the place they came from. Eisenberg is accompanied on screen by Kieran Culkin (“Succession”).
As he has said in many interviews, this is a story that is based on the fate of his family, it follows out of a desire to understand them better and the need to face the past. One of the scenes was filmed in an apartment, from which they escaped in 1938 to go to the United States. At the Sundance Film Festival held in January, the actor talked about the details of this event.
In one of his conversations with his 100-year-old aunt, Eisenberg promised that he would come to the place where she spent the first years of her life.
“If I ever shoot a film in Europe, I will visit your little house where you grew up” – was the promise that the star managed to fulfill.
Later in his remarks at the festival, Eisenberg talked about his feelings when he visited this particular location.
“I had some kind of existential epiphany that this is where I would be if the war hadn’t broken out. I would live here, in this city, and find out what my life would be like,” he said.
While recording, the actor often wondered what his life might have been like if his loved ones had stayed here. The star’s vision shows that living here he would probably start wearing a beard and… he could start selling fruit.
The actor has been trying to obtain Polish citizenship for some time. He assured many times that Poland was very important to him and when he discovered his roots, it was the first time he felt so strongly connected to something.
His family comes from the Lublin area and he apparently came to this area many times when he was young. Moreover, his wife, Anna Strout, comes from Łódź.
