On May 24, 2025, the closing gala of the 78th International Film Festival in Cannes was held. This year, the Golden Palma went to the Iranian director Jafar Panahi for the film “It was just an accident”. The jury met under the leadership of Juliette Binoche, and in it consisted of: Halle Berry, Payal Kapadia, Alba Rohrwacher, Leïla Slimani, Dieudo Hamadi, Carlos Reygadas, Hong Sang-Soo and Jeremy Strong. Jeremy Strong compared the debates on the Winner of the Golden Palm to the process of choosing a new pope presented in the Oscar -awarded film “Conclave”.
“I feel extremely inspired by what I saw here. Everything was so invigorating (…) and he will stay with me for a long time,” said Strong during a press conference after awarding the statuette.

Strong added that the jury wanted to distinguish the films that they thought were transcendent as works. Speaking of “It was just an accident” and other awarded films, Strong decided to quote the playwright Henrik Ibsen.
“Ibsen said: ‘There is a poem deep in the poem. And when you hear it, when you understand it, you will understand my song.’
