Jeremy Renner at the People’s Choice gala: “It’s good to be back”

People’s Choice was first awarded in 1975. Unlike other awards presented during the awards season, the winners are chosen by a larger or smaller group of people from some organization, and by viewers in online voting. The ceremony brings together film, television, music and pop culture categories.

The winner of the 49th People’s Choice Awards was “Barbie” by Greta Gerwig, which won in five categories: film of the year, comedy of the year, acting performance of the year (America Ferrara), and male performance (Ryan Gosling) and female performance (Margot Robbie) of the year. Taylor Swift won four statuettes: for musical artist of the year, pop singer of the year, best concert tour of the year (The Eras Tour) and celebrity of the year. The gala was hosted by Simu Liu, star of the film “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”.

To the audience’s surprise, the first award of the evening was presented by Jeremy Renner. It was the actor’s first public appearance in over 13 months. At the beginning of 2023, he suffered a serious accident that almost resulted in his death. Renner underwent a long recovery, which he reported on on social media.

“I admit, it’s nice to come back” – with these words the actor greeted the audience. “This year has been a difficult journey and I’m glad to be here with you, the fans. You are the best. You really rocked it this year. You broke records. You turned movies into social movements. We heard you loud and clear.”

After the winner was announced, Renner gave a big hug to someone in the audience Tom Hiddlestonwith whom he appeared “Avengers” from 2012. The “Loki” star later took home the award for best science fiction or fantasy series.

On the first day of 2023, a Hollywood actor and his nephew tried to tow an off-road vehicle using a snowplow. Star “American Hustle” at one point he stepped out of the vehicle to make sure his 27-year-old relative was out of danger. He then lost control of the 6.5-ton machine. As he was about to get behind the wheel again, he fell out of the cab and was run over. As a result of the accident, the Satellite winner suffered extensive head and chest injuries and broke over 30 bones.

While in the hospital, Renner expected the worst. As he revealed in a television interview with Diane Sawyer, he had even started writing a farewell letter to his loved ones. While talking about it, he had difficulty suppressing tears.

Jeremy Renner rose to prominence thanks to his starring role in the film “The Hurt Locker: Trapped in War”, for which he received an Oscar nomination. He had a second chance to win the award for his supporting role in “City of Thieves”. Since then, he has regularly appeared in the films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the archer Hawkeye.
