Check: Eddie Van Halen is dead
Recently, his brother Alex (the group’s drummer) announced that he is preparing a book titled “Brothers”, which will include memories about not only Eddie himself, but also their years growing up together and their path to fame with the band Van Halen. The 384-page book is supposed to be very personal, unique on the publishing market. Ariel Levy, a valued author of “The New Yorker”, helped him write this biography.
Alex Van Halen announces that the book is a “love letter” to his beloved brother. We can read its first announcement on the band’s website. “In his rough but sometimes sweet memories, Alex recounts the brothers’ childhoods – first in the Netherlands, then in working-class Pasadena, California, with a musician father with a wanderer’s spirit and a mother – a very composed, Indonesian-born woman who admonished her sons to ‘always wear a suit’ no matter how famous they became. A woman who was both proud and practical, nonchalant when it came to taking leftovers for the dog from a star-studded dinner. She also shares tales of musical principles , fights and many bad boy behaviors. But above all, it is a story about brotherhood, music and lasting love,” we read.
We also learned a fragment of Alex Van Halen’s already finished book. “I was with him from day one. We came to this country (USA) together and figured out how to fit in together. We shared a record player, an 800-square-foot house, a mom and dad, and a work ethic. Later we shared the back of a tour bus, alcoholism, the experience of becoming famous, becoming fathers and uncles, and spending more hours in the studio than anything else in this life. We shared a depth of understanding that most people can only hope to achieve in a lifetime,” we read in an excerpt from this long stories.
In addition to being a tribute to Eddie Van Halen, the book is also an attempt to “organize information about Edward’s life and death” as well as “a detailed description of their and the band’s activities.” The rather hefty volume also includes never-before-published photos from the Van Halens’ private archive.
