It may cause a sensation at Eurovision! Who is the Portuguese representative, Iolanda?

Iolanda with the song “Grito” will compete in the colors of Portugal at this year's Eurovision.

Will she be able to repeat the success of Salvador Sobral, who won in 2017? in this competition?

Iolanda Costa, who will represent Portugal at Eurovision 2024, was born in 1994 in the coastal city of Figueira da Foz. She showed interest in music from childhood, which her parents noticed and sent her to the Tecnimúsica music school in Pombal. Her musical education developed further at the prestigious British and Irish Institute of Modern Music in Great Britain.

Despite early attempts at talent shows, where she tried her hand at the age of 14, she did not achieve spectacular successes. Now, after winning the Festival da Canção and with the song “Grito”, she will represent Portugal at Eurovision 2024 in Sweden. Her performance is awaited by fans who hope that Iolanda will give an unforgettable show on the stage in Malmö.

Portugal debuted at Eurovision in 1964. In 1974, the Eurovision song “E Depois De Adeus” became a symbol of the democratic coup in this country. Afterwards, Portugal did not achieve significant success at Eurovision, winning its highest position – sixth place – thanks to Lucia Moniz in 1996. The long-awaited victory came only in 2017, when Salvador Sobral triumphed with the song “Amar Pelos Dois”. He then scored a record 758 points. Last year, Portugal was represented by Mimicat with the song “Ai Coração”, but only took 23rd place.

Eurovision 2024 will take place in Sweden. The competition will be organized at the Malmö Arena, which already hosted Eurovision in 2013. The semi-finals are scheduled for May 7 and 9, and the Grand Final will take place on May 11. The slogan of this year's Eurovision is “United By Music”.
